Because it really doesn't take that much effort to show someone that she is valued. Really it just takes some thought about what she likes to do, deciding to do that with her, planning it all while she is sleeping, putting on "fancy knickerbockers", waking her up from her nap and asking her to don a tutu, escorting her outside for some hot cocoa, ice cream, coloring and drawing lessons.
And then just being available. To chat. To help her with her sweater. To get a blanket when she's cold. Sit with her.
Because in this world, in your world that screams so loudly, "every man for himself!" you must fight that voice and run instead toward the light that calls, "take care of each other".
